When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come to the place of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come to the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

From the poem "THE PEACE OF WILD THINGS"
This is my favorite poem, ever. I've thought about getting it tattooed on me, it's that much a part of my soul, but it may end up being more picture than words. I just really, really feel at home here. That is all.
ReplyDeleteThis poem has been very special to me too. Whenever I'm feeling distracted and dismayed ( it seems to happen rather a lot :) I read it slowly and it always centres me. I find so much wisdom and solace in nature.
DeleteAnd I'd be tempted to get that tattoo :)
