Soulfood Friday
We have been harvesting our garden elderberries and local wild apples and preserving them in a number of ways. Today I made our first home harvested pie. No pictures of that, it was eaten too quickly.
There is something about harvesting and preserving that connects us to our environment. Beautiful plumes of elderberries piled high tempted the girls into the kitchen. I soon had lots of helping hands.
Emmy bought me the movie Far from the Madding Crowd and we watched it together over the weekend. This song from the soundtrack is simply mesmerizing.
Every Friday I'll be pausing to notice something from the week that has nourished my soul.
*
A special, sacred-everyday moment captured on camera, or perhaps a snippet from a book, a recipe still warm from the kitchen or something whimsical that simply made me smile.
*
Here are a few simple things that have fed my soul this week.
What has inspired/fed/nourished your soul this week friends?

Your kind words never fail to bring a smile to my face:)
At the moment I am going through a busy season of life with 5 girls under my wing! I may not always be able to respond immediately but please know that every word left here is read and appreciated deeply.

Mmmm perfect autumn flavours! Our elderberries are past their peak here but I have apples and blackberries stored away in the freezer for the deep midwinter!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so wonderful, I'd just wish I could be there helping. Have a grand weekend!

ReplyDeleteLook at all those elderberries. Elderberry syrup has been made a few times here already, so good. Enjoy all those apples.
ReplyDeleteeverything is wonderful
ReplyDeleteThose elderberries are so pretty. I love that all the girls are helping out. Thank you for the link up, I hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI have my elderberries in the freezer just waiting to be turned into syrup.
ReplyDeleteAnd apples, I was given a box of apples this week and am having the
best time using them every day making hand pies.
Have a beautiful weekend.
It looks so deliciuos (we make soup from elderberries) and the song is amazing..
ReplyDeleteWe had a dark, rainy grey week here with first snow , really a winter week, not golden autumn and I had many many pain (orthopedic illness). I'm thankful for my heather and the time to read books and remember the nice spring and summertime.
Have a great weekend
we harvested lots of apples too, and scouts came and took the rest for making apple juice and then earn some money for their projects.
ReplyDeletei'm really enjoying the soundtrack...
This entire post, is like a lovely few moments, of peace. What more, can I say, about it? What more could anyone desire, from a post, than a feeling of contented peace?
ReplyDeleteYour photos are like paintings..... They are!!!
Thank you...
Tessa
On one photo (3rd from bottom) do I spy a bottle.... Just able to see the words 'flower' and 'cordial'? Please, what is this? Is it what it sounds like? A delightful Flower Cordial?
ReplyDeleteTessa
Of course Tessa :) It is a locally made and sold Elder flower cordial. It's yummy but I'm hoping we might make some of our own from our own elder flowers next Spring :)
DeleteIt is so amazing how beautiful the colors of fruits can be! Your house and hearth seem so warm and loving!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful. I was wondering what type of berries those were. You made me think of when we would pick grapes off our grapevine and make jelly and jam. One of my fondest childhood memories.
ReplyDeleteAutumn is such a wonderful time for all kinds of bounty from mother nature. We have been drinking elderberry wine that I made a few years ago - it was perfectly wonderful and the smell of it reminded me of the hedgerows the berries were picked from.
